T. W. "Chip" Small was born in Mineola, NY and grew up in Mt. Prospect, IL. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL and the University of Washington School of Law. He has been married to Mary McLaughlin since 1974, with three children and nine grandchildren.
Chip started practicing law in Wenatchee, Washington beginning in 1978. Governor Booth Gardner appointed him to the bench in June, 1991. During his legal career, he received awards from the Access to Justice Board, the Washington Judges Foundation, and the Washington State Bar Association. He retired in 2018 after serving on the Chelan County Superior Court longer than anyone in the history of the county.
Retired and ready to write, Chip exposes the system for what it is through both fiction and non-fiction works. When not writing, he spends time with his family, enjoys horseback riding, and local non-profit work. He plans to continue writing about more legal adventures through his character Arnie Adams introduced in Stark Justice. Pictured is his late companion, Wyatt, who will always be remembered for being there from the beginning.
